An Intimate Ceremony in Redmond, Washington

From the Photographer

Sara and Nick celebrated their best day ever through a handfasting and picnic. The vibe for their guests was flexible, relaxing, lowkey and full of fun. They wanted to have a picnic in the forest with their guests, s’mores included. They asked their guests to participate in whatever way feels the most fun and enjoyable to each person. Inclusion is so important to these two and I absolutely loved how they fused their beliefs into the planning of their wedding day.

Opting to not have a wedding party, and a small guest list. They provided the loose schedule and carved out additional time to enjoy themselves with their guests.

The theme of their wedding day was stars. Symbolizing the healing resiliency of stars and starlight over generations. As well as symbolizing light in the dark. The handfasting ceremony was a pagan/wiccan ritual.

They had asked to have a gift-less wedding. For the guests who felt moved to, they asked that they would make an offering to Duwamish Tribal Services as the newlyweds wanted to seek to support the indigenous-led Land Back movement. On their wedding website, they included information on the movement with the motivation to give back to indigenous folks what is stolen, including land, among other important meanings encompassed by the movement.

Sara and Nick also asked guests to bring a small, biodegradable offering (such as a cookie, leaf or a rock found on the walk in through the venue) to the fairies/spirits/ancestors. These gifts were added to a table up near their altar. It made for a beautiful and unique centerpiece of their celebration.

It was a beautiful, lovely, and magical ritual between them and their friends. A moment where time stops and they were simply between the worlds as one.

Following the ceremony was the celebration, a picnic between close friends.
